From engineering to launch: a proud moment for Age Jan
LONGPOWER, built for Longship, has successfully entered the water in Waterhuizen. The vessel is part of Longship’s PMAX ECO TRADER series of eight ships. Design, naval architecture and construction engineering are carried out by Groot Ship Design, while SaS Waterhuizen is building the series at its yard in Groningen.
For our colleague Age Jan, the launch has an extra personal dimension. As a DEKC Maritime engineer, he spent nearly two years working closely with the team at SaS Waterhuizen and contributed to the engineering of the vessels in this series.
“It is great to see a ship you have worked on actually take shape and enter the water. After spending so much time on drawings, details and technical solutions, seeing the finished vessel remains something special.”
The Longship series is also a strong example of modern shipbuilding in Groningen. SaS combines years of craftsmanship with an increasingly efficient approach to serial production, allowing experience from one vessel to be carried directly into the next.
With owner, design, engineering and production all based in the same region, communication lines are short and decisions can be made quickly. For a series of eight vessels, that offers clear advantages in quality, efficiency and continuous improvement.
