Ship design and naval architecture
We take ship designs for cargo and heavy-lift vessels, dredgers, offshore and special-purpose ships from the first concept to a basic design ready for class approval, with all naval architecture in-house.
Concept design. Starting from the operational profile, a client's first idea or an existing vessel, we set the main dimensions, hull form, general arrangement and capacities, and check them early against stability, speed and power.
Basic design. We work the concept out into a complete basic design: plans and arrangements, the midship section and construction drawings, stability documentation, and speed, power and seakeeping from CFD in our virtual towing tank. Structure and on-board systems are designed alongside the hull, so choices are made for the vessel as a whole.
Class approval. Drawings and calculations are prepared to the rules of the classification society the client chooses, so the design is ready for approval and production engineering can follow without rework.
Recent work includes the trailing suction hopper dredgers for Van Oord, the basic design of the heavy-lift cargo vessel Asiatic and the engineering for the hopper dredger Emerald Duchess.

Structural design
We offer services from the first set-up of the main cross-section to complete construction plans based on a full 3D engineering model, according to whichever classification society is desired.
In-depth analysis of critical areas using FEM can also be performed.
Besides this, smart design of the structure can be of the utmost importance in reducing building costs and maximising deadweight. Therefore, we involve both the operator and the builder in this process whenever possible.

System design
Part of our integrated design approach is to include the design and layout of a vessel's on-board systems at an early stage in the design process.
This ensures no compromises need to be made to the overall design at a later stage.
At DEKC, system design and engineering is done using 3D Cadmatic software, from basic routing for space reservation and early MTO to detailed production information and every step in between. This way, engineering and models from different packages can be combined into one model, and customers can review during the engineering project by means of the eBrowser, giving full insight into every step.
Proof on real vessels

Van Oord ZSH
Van Oord has commissioned a series of new trailing suction hopper dredgers designed to enhance fleet efficiency and environmental performance. Each vessel features a 10,500 m³ hopper capacity with one suction pipe and five bottom doors.
The engineering team prioritized energy efficiency throughout the design. The vessels meet Tier III IMO emission standards and incorporate Dual Fuel engines. Multiple design elements significantly reduce fuel consumption and carbon emissions. The ships will feature innovative, sustainable systems and carry Green Passport and Clean Ship notations.
DEKC Maritime collaborated closely with Van Oord’s design team during basic design and class approval phases. Work included comprehensive stability calculations, structural finite element analyses, design and integration of critical ship systems and components, plus production support to the yard.
Main particulars: LOA 138.0 m · Beam 28.0 m · Draft 7.8 m · Capacity 10,500 m³ · Status: in progress · Number planned: 3 vessels.
