Adapting existing vessels to new requirements, so they can take on a new role, new equipment or changing operational demands.
When those changes are needed, DEKC delivers the design and engineering to make them work. We start by understanding the vessel, the intended operation and the practical constraints, then assess how the required changes fit into the existing design. Our multidisciplinary approach covers the full impact of a conversion, from stability, strength and weight to systems, machinery, piping and outfitting. Where existing information is limited, surveys, laser scanning and 3D modelling provide an accurate basis for the engineering.
We develop the solution from feasibility and concept design through to class documentation, detailed engineering and production information. Whether it is a major refit, new equipment, alternative propulsion or a smaller modification, our focus is on making the conversion technically sound, practical to execute and fit for purpose.
Conversion feasibility

Before starting a conversion, we assess whether the proposed changes are technically feasible and what they mean for the vessel. By considering stability, strength, weight, space, systems and class requirements at an early stage, we identify constraints and possible solutions before major design decisions are made.
Lengthenings and rebuilds
New sections, repurposing and capacity changes, engineered on a full 3D model of the existing ship.
For vessel lengthenings and major rebuilds, we engineer the integration of new sections, structures and systems into the existing ship. From stability and structural integrity to systems, weight and class requirements, we consider the vessel as a whole and develop the design through to production-ready engineering.
Check-ups and surveys
An independent read on the state of a vessel and the steps to keep it in service, including class and flag surveys.
Onboard surveys and technical assessments provide the basis for understanding the condition of an existing vessel and identifying where action is required. DEKC combines practical inspection with engineering expertise to assess structural and technical issues and define the modifications, repairs or further investigations needed to keep the vessel in service. We also support class and flag-related surveys and follow-up engineering.
Proof on real vessels
AidaMira
The former Costa NeoRiviera underwent a major conversion in 2019 and was rebranded the AidaMira. Both brands are part of the Carnival Maritime group.
The renovation involved a full overhaul of the entire vessel, as well as rearranging several areas to accommodate for the 700 cabins onboard.
DEKC Maritime’s involvement focused on three key areas: structural integrity support in modified sections, stability documentation, and systems/electrical design work conducted alongside Eekels bv.
