Van Oord’s has ordered a series of new trailing suction hopper dredgers, which will further the company’s ambition of making its fleet more economical and environmentally friendly. Each vessel will have a 10500 m3 hopper with one suction pipe and five bottom doors.

The engineering team paid special attention to the vessels’ energy efficiency. Each vessel qualifies as a Tier III vessel (IMO emission standards) and will be fitted with Dual Fuel engines. The design includes several features that will reduce fuel consumption, and consequently carbon emissions, by a considerable margin. The vessels will be equipped with innovative and sustainable systems, and will obtain the Green Passport and Clean Ship notations.

DEKC Maritime worked in close cooperation with the design team at Van Oord during the entire basic design and class approval
phases. Extensive stability calculations and structural analyses in FEM were carried out during this process, as well as the design, engineering, and integration of critical on-board systems and components. During the production process, additional engineering support has been provided to the yard.
