VAN OORD AEOLUS
DUTCH NORTH SEA
Aeolus is Van Oord’s jack-up offshore installation vessel, and is the cornerstone of many of its offshore wind farm construction projects. Delivered in 2014, she immediately set to work installing the 43 turbine foundations and wind turbine generators for Eneco Luchterduinen, a 129-MW offshore wind farm off the Dutch North Sea coast. Upon completion of this project, activities continued in the 600 MW Gemini Offshore Wind Farm, north of the Wadden island Schiermonnikoog.
For both Luchterduinen and Gemini, DEKC Maritime was responsible for a large amount of engineering work on-board Aeolus. First of all, class approval of the vessel was taken care of, including the creation of stability books and performing an inclining test. Then, operational procedures for the installation of the turbine foundations and components were developed and analyzed. Finally, with the vessel up and running, operational load cases were created and checked, lifting operations were engineered, and many seafastenings and grillages were designed, all for both wind farm projects.
